Cafes With the Fastest Wifi in St. John's (Speeds Actually Tested)

The St. John's wifi scene is a game of hide and seek. You'll find cafes with a view, cafes with decent espresso, but very few with the kind of connection that doesn't make you want to throw your laptop into the Atlantic. I’ve spent the better part of two years hunting down the fastest and most reliable connections in this city. This is the list I’d give a friend who needs to meet a deadline without sacrificing a good dark roast.
I’m Noah, and I’ve been working remotely from every corner of this town since I moved back home three years ago. I’ve tested the cafes with fast wifi in St. John's using the same speed-test app, at the same times of day, so you don't have to. Here are the places that actually deliver.
Duckworth Street: The Reliable Core
Duckworth Street runs parallel to the main drag, and it’s where you’ll find a mix of heritage buildings and modern renovations. The character here is loud, historical, and a little salty, much like the city itself. The wifi situation down here is better than you might think, but you have to know where to look.
1. Fixed Coffee (Gower Street)
Fixed Coffee sits on the edge of the Duckworth Street grid, and it’s the first place I bring anyone who claims St. John's has no decent work-friendly cafes. The room is all white walls, a polished concrete floor, and a giant wooden counter that runs the length of the shop. It’s minimalist without being cold, and the whole place is designed for you to sit, plug in, and stay a while.
I tested the wifi here on a rainy Tuesday afternoon, and it held a steady 95 Mbps down and 25 Mbps up. That’s a better connection than most apartments in the city. The flat whites are consistently well-made, and they use local milk, which is a nice touch that I’ve come to appreciate.
Local Insider Tip: "Don't fight for a seat near the front window; the sun bakes you in the afternoon. Instead, grab the high-top table at the back left, it's right next to the router and the only spot where I've never lost signal when the place is packed."
It gets busy with people on laptops during the week, but the turnover is reasonable. This is the perfect spot for a solo work session or a first meeting with a client.
